CEMA Trenches
Distinguished historian and broadcaster Andy Robertshaw’s latest adventure is called The Centre for Experimental Military Archaeology (CEMA). Life-sized replica trenches are being created at the Kent Event Centre in Detling, near Maidstone, which offer the opportunity to explore what life in a Great War trench was like. It is also an ideal film location with several short films having been made their already.
Look out for Open Days throughout the year when guided tours of the trenches and dugout are offered to give you glimpses into daily life in a Great War trench. Being IN a trench is a very different experience to looking at photos of them and the costumed guides are very happy to answer your questions or help you to understand what you are looking at. I learn something new each time I go and I plan to display my trench models there during some of their open days.
